SMYRNA, Ga. (AP) - Police trying to serve a warrant fatally shot a man in a Maserati near a suburban Atlanta shopping center.

Smyrna police officer Ed Cason says Smyrna police were trying to serve a man with a felony probation violation warrant Tuesday afternoon and he got into the white luxury car and drove toward them. Cason says the officers feared for their lives at shot at the man’s car.

Local television footage showed the car came to a stop in a grassy area near a parking lot. The man’s identity hasn’t been released. Cason says Cobb County Police are investigating the shooting.

The shooting northwest of Atlanta comes a day after a robbery suspect fired at a Gwinnett County police officer at a Norcross apartment complex. The officer wasn’t injured.
