WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) - A Waterloo man has been sentenced to life in prison without parole for first-degree murder connected to a fatal shooting outside a grocery store in 2013.

The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports (https://bit.ly/1FTnNqB ) that 33-year-old Antonio DeShawn Hutchins was sentenced Monday. He was convicted in January of shooting to death 30-year-old Cederick Matlock in the parking lot of a Waterloo grocery store on June 25, 2013.

Hutchins also received 10- and five-year sentences for willful injury and firearm charges, which are slated to run concurrent to the life term. Prosecutors had requested consecutive sentences.

At his sentencing hearing, Hutchins apologized to Matlock’s family, but maintained that he wasn’t guilty of murder. He says he didn’t get a fair trial.
