GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP) - Authorities are investigating the death of a woman who was shot as she slept in her Greenville home.

Police tell local media outlets that 49-year-old Gail Lanier died Monday night at a hospital.

Lanier was shot just before 4 a.m. Sunday when her home was hit by gunfire. Authorities say one bullet came through her bedroom window and struck her in the head.

Lanier was taken to a hospital, where she died Monday.

Authorities say they are still investigating and don’t think Lanier was the intended target of the shooting. No arrests have been made.
