NATCHEZ, Miss. (AP) - The city of Natchez is planning a public meeting on a proposed $900,000 renovation of the Natchez Senior Citizens’ Multipurpose Center.

The Natchez Democrat reports (https://bit.ly/1NfAixa ) the board of aldermen heard this week from Community Development Director James Johnston on the long list of updates for the center.

Johnston says half the project’s funding would be provided through a 5050 match from the Community Development Block Grant Program from the state.

Johnston says the center was built in 1913 and is in dire need of repair.

The list of improvements includes window repairs, interior painting, plumbing repairs, replacing fire alarm systems and other infrastructure issues.

Johnston says the grant for the project would most likely become available midMay.

A public hearing would get community feedback on the renovations.
