ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - New Mexico’s most populous county has a new fire chief - a 27-year veteran of a Texas fire department.

The Bernalillo County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday selected Christopher Celaya to replace Frank Barka as the county’s fire chief.

Celaya is currently deputy for operations of the El Paso Fire Department, Texas. He started with that department in 1988.

The county provides services to 114,000 residents who live outside city limits.
