BELLINGHAM, Wash. (AP) - A Birch Bay woman was sentenced to 43 years in prison for helping her boyfriend carry out a throat-slashing murder-for-hire attempt on a Ferndale woman.

The Bellingham Herald reports (https://is.gd/4c2sdK ) that Lesley Alexandra Villatoro was sentenced on Tuesday for her part in a May 2014 attack of a 39-year-old mother. Prosecutors say Villatoro drove her boyfriend Chad Horne to the woman’s house where he attached her. Horne died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound later that day.

A jury found Villatoro guilty of complicity to attempted murder, burglary and three counts of kidnapping.

Hanging over the trial was the question of who wanted the woman dead, and why Villatoro had any interest in it. Prosecutor Dave McEachran says he believed a jealous man had hired Horne as a hitman.
