HAUPPAUGE, N.Y. (AP) - A woman is facing charges of DWI and leaving the scene of an accident after police say she hit an officer standing on the shoulder of the Long Island Expressway.

Police say Theresa Finnin-Hunt of Sea Cliff was arrested after the Tuesday afternoon incident in Hauppauge.

They say the 52-year-old woman hit Officer Dennis Hendrickson on the arm and hand near Exit 56.

The officer was directing traffic at the time following a crash that closed all westbound lanes of the expressway.

Police say Finnin-Hunt disregarded the officer’s signals to slow down when her car struck him.

She was charged with reckless endangerment and driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident with personal injury.

It’s not known if she had a lawyer.
