PHOENIX (AP) - A shoplifting suspect who escaped from a Chandler holding facility last month has pleaded not guilty to several charges.

Maricopa County Superior Court officials say 28-year-old Shane Hoke entered his plea Wednesday. His next court date is May 13.

Hoke was an inmate at the Gilbert-Chandler Unified Holding Facility. The city jail houses inmates before possible transfers to the county-run facilities.

He allegedly used a jailhouse phone Feb. 28 to call Gilbert police dispatch and say he represented the Chandler Records Department.

He allegedly asked to speak with someone at the city jail and informed them that Shane Hoke had posted bond.

Hoke was recaptured March 6.

He’s facing charges of criminal impersonation, escape and narcotics possession. Authorities say Hoke had heroin and prescription pills in his wallet when arrested.
