NEW CASTLE, Del. (AP) - Authorities say a 12-year-old girl was injured when she was hit by a car as she crossed a road.

New Castle County Paramedics say the girl was hit Tuesday afternoon South DuPont Highway in New Castle. They say the girl was trying to cross the road when she was hit by a car in the northbound lanes.

Paramedics say the girl was taken to Christiana Hospital in Newark with head and leg injuries and she was listed in stable condition. More information about her condition was not available.

Delaware State Police are investigating the crash.
