TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - A county corrections officer has been sentenced to prison for his role in a scheme to smuggle marijuana, cellphones and other contraband into the Essex County Jail.

Federal prosecutors said 27-year-old Stephon Solomon, of Irvington, was sentenced to 18 months in prison Wednesday.

Two other men were sentenced this week after pleading guilty to conspiring with Solomon smuggle contraband into the jail.

Solomon pleaded guilty last October to conspiring to commit extortion under color of official right for passing the contraband to an inmate. Prosecutors say he accepted cash bribe payments.
