ATLANTA (AP) - Comedians from across the country and Canada are looking to gain exposure at the sixth annual Laughing Skull Comedy Festival.

Seventy-two finalists were chosen out of 400 submissions to compete at the five-day festival, which kicked off Wednesday in Atlanta. The event will be held throughout the city at venues such as the Laughing Skull Lounge, The Improv Comedy Club, Hard Rock Cafe and Eddie’s Attic.

The final round will be held at the The Improv on March 28.

Winners will receive cash and prizes. The festival also offers an opportunity for competitors to catch the attention of TV bookers, agents and managers.

Festival organizers say past winners and competitors have performed on shows including “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” ”Late Show with David Letterman” and “America’s Got Talent.”
