PARIS, Maine (AP) - A Maine man has been ordered by a judge to pay $1.2 million to a woman he attacked and severely injured in her own home in May 2011.

Benjamin Howard, of Albany Township, who was convicted in criminal court and sentenced to prison, was sued by the victim for medical bills, emotional distress and pain and suffering.

The Sun Journal (https://bit.ly/1FEQaud ) reports that an Oxford County Superior Court judge ruled in the victim’s favor this week.

The judge noted that it’s unclear whether the 39-year-old Howard will able to pay the judgment because he has few assets since his release from prison.

Howard had been at the victim’s house hours before the attack for his own engagement party, and went back after his fiancee fled to the house following an argument.
