LEADINGTON, Mo. (AP) - A southeast Missouri man is in custody after allegedly threatening three bicyclists with a gun. It turned out the bicyclists were off-duty police officers.

The Daily Journal newspaper in Park Hills, Missouri (https://bit.ly/1CYFINw ) reports that three men were riding bikes Sunday in Leadington when an aggressive dog approached.

Police Chief Dustin McKinney says a man came out of a nearby home armed with a handgun. He allegedly pointed the gun at one of the bicyclists and threatened to kill him, then threatened to assault a second bicyclist who tried to intervene.

That’s when the third bicyclist told the resident that all three men were off-duty police officers. The man with the gun returned home. He was arrested a short time later.

Formal charges have not been filed.
