GOSHEN, N.Y. (AP) - The lawyer for a 52-year-old Hudson Valley man charged with killing his wife says his client will be examined by a psychiatrist for a potential psychiatric defense.

The Times Herald-Record of Middletown (https://bit.ly/1IrGD7R ) says Leonard Salters’ lawyer appeared before an Orange County judge on Monday. He told the judge he had received his client’s medical records from the Veterans Administration hospitals where Salters has been treated.

Salters is charged with second-degree murder, first-degree manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon for the June 20 stabbing death of 62-year-old Junco Salters at their home in Highland Falls near the West Point military academy.

Salters was found several hours after the stabbing after crashing his car in New Jersey. He was seriously injured.
