BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) - In a story March 19 about the death of a Billings pedestrian, The Associated Press, relying on information from Billings police, erroneously reported the victim’s name. He was William Reed, not Walter Reed.

Man dies after stepping into traffic outside a Billings sports bar, driver not cited

BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) - A 44-year-old man was struck and killed when he stepped into traffic outside a Billings sports bar.

Police Sgt. Jason Gartner tells The Billings Gazette (https://bit.ly/1CyOksy) that William Reed was fatally injured at about 9 p.m. Wednesday when he stepped into the path of a sport utility vehicle that was traveling about 40 mph. The driver had no time to stop. Gartner says Reed was knocked about 50 feet down the road.

He was pronounced dead at a Billings hospital.

The driver has not been cited.
