MANSFIELD, La. (AP) - A Mansfield alderman is in jail following his arrest for fighting police officers after refusing to leave the DeSoto Council on Aging property.

The Times reports (https://bit.ly/1HESthz ) Roy Jones was booked Tuesday on one count of remaining after being forbidden, battery on a police officer and probation violation and three counts of resisting an officer.

Probation officer Rick Pharris said he had received complaints from the COA about Jones being on the property. Jones had been banned since his arrest for stealing more than $20,000 from the agency while his wife served as executive director.

His wife and two of her relatives pleaded guilty to felony charges. Jones pleaded guilty to four misdemeanor counts of theft.

Officials couldn’t provide the name of a defense attorney to comment on the charges.
