FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (AP) - A 29-year-old man has been accused of stealing batteries from school buses in Cumberland County.

Authorities told local media outlets Tuesday that 29-year-old Christian Dawkins had been arrested on 16 counts each of felony breaking or entering a motor vehicle, misdemeanor larceny and possession of stolen goods.

Investigators said he’s stolen the batteries from parked school buses at least five different times.

Officials say Dawkins was caught in the act at one school. Cumberland County schools officials estimate the loss to date at $5,350.

Dawkins was jailed on an $80,000 bond. It wasn’t immediately known if he had attorney.
