JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - The state Court of Appeals has denied a new trial to a man who pleaded guilty to his role in a 2010 fatal shooting and robbery at Mi Pueblo restaurant in Olive Branch.

Jesus Adilio Rivera Castro argued in court briefs that he was ill advised by his lawyer when he pleaded guilty to the charges in DeSoto County Circuit Court in 2011.

Castro argued he had minimal time to speak with his lawyers through a translator.

The Appeals Court said in Tuesday’s decision that records show Castro told the trial judge he understood the consequences of pleading guilty and the sentence he could receive.

Castro was one of three men arrested in the shooting death of assistant restaurant manager Alejandro Gonzalez on May 25, 2010, during a robbery.
