PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (AP) - Parkersburg Mayor Bob Newell has accused a City Council member of using her office for personal gain.

Councilwoman Kim Coram denies the allegations.

Newell says Coram used her council position to recoup money in a rent dispute with the Municipal Building Commission. The mayor also says Coram requested and voted for an audit of the commission.

Newell made the allegations in a complaint filed with the West Virginia Ethics Commission. Media outlets report that Newell released a copy of the complaint on Tuesday.

Coram tells media outlets that she has been in regular contact with the Ethics Commission’s staff since she and a partner opened a business in 2014. They leased space in a property managed by the Building Commission.

Coram sold her interest in the business in November 2014.
