MECHANICVILLE, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say a pedestrian has died after being hit by a freight train near an upstate New York rail yard.

Local media report that officials in the Saratoga County city of Mechanicville say the man was hit by the locomotive around 5 a.m. Wednesday near the entrance to the rail yard that spreads into the neighboring town of Halfmoon, 12 miles north of Albany.

A nearby railroad crossing on Viall (VYE’-uhl) Avenue remains closed to vehicle traffic as police investigate the accident.

No other details have been released.
