SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) - People looking for ways to restore Missouri’s one-room school houses are having their first phone conference to generate ideas.

The University of Missouri Extension says the guest speaker for the Thursday afternoon event will be Will Washam. He organized the restoration of the Phelps School in Lawrence County and wrote a book about one-room schools in the area.

The phone call is being paid for through donations to Greene County Extension’s one-room school project known as the Missouri Historic Schools Alliance. Conference participants will be able to ask questions.

Extension spokesman David Burton says the goal is to have quarterly phone conferences for people from across Missouri that are interested in restoring and using former one-room schools. He says the calls will “showcase success stories from around the state.”
