MADISON, Maine (AP) - Police say a fatal traffic accident in Madison may have been caused when an SUV lost its left rear wheel.
The victim of the crash late Tuesday morning has been identified as 49-year-old Amy Bowman of Solon.
Police say Bowman was heading south on U.S. Route 201 when she lost control, swerving to the left and into the path of a flatbed tow truck near the Skowhegan town line.
Bowman was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the tow truck, a 39-year-old Skowhegan man, was not injured.
Madison Police Chief Barry Moores says it appears as if Bowman’s SUV lost a rear wheel.
The crash remains under investigation.
