SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - A registered sex offender has pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting his ex-girlfriend in South Dakota.

Twenty-three-year-old Michael Geraets pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and sexual contact without consent Monday. The Argus Leader (https://argusne.ws/1DXC8TS ) reports prosecutors reduced the rape charge and dropped the remaining charges against Geraets in exchange for his guilty plea.

A 23-year-old woman called police on March 8, 2014, to report that she had been raped.

Court documents say the victim told detectives that Geraets forced her clothes off, and then held her down by the neck and bit her during the assault.

Geraets claimed he and the woman had consensual sex.

He was placed on the sex offender registry several years ago after he was convicted of raping a 12-year-old girl.
