IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - Iowa City authorities say a bank teller recognized his daughter’s name on a check and refused to cash it for a man who presented it.

Twenty-nine-year-old Brian Albaugh is charged with forgery. Online court records don’t list the name of a defense attorney who could be contacted to comment for Albaugh.

Iowa City police say the $700 check somehow obtained by Albaugh had been signed but the payee’s name originally had been left blank, per an agreement between the bank teller’s daughter and her landlord. Police say Albaugh or someone else had put his name on the payee line.

The MidWestOne Bank teller contacted his daughter and the landlord, who confirmed that Albaugh was not authorized to have the check. The teller didn’t give Albaugh any money.
