TEXARKANA, Ark. (AP) - The federal agriculture department has announced a $25 million loan to a Texarkana cooperative to boost broadband Internet service in the southwest Arkansas area.

An official with the Southwest Arkansas Telephone Cooperative tells the Texarkana Gazette (https://bit.ly/19kAu0W ) that the funding will help it upgrade the fiber-optic network in southwest Arkansas.

He says about 400 miles of fiber optics have been installed in the Bloomburg, Texas, area and crews were working in Columbia County, Arkansas, on Tuesday.

The company’s website states the cooperative has served rural communities in Arkansas and Texas since the 1950s.
