ATHENS, Ga. (AP) - Authorities say a University of Georgia professor was robbed at gunpoint near downtown Athens, one of a string of robberies reported to police in recent weeks.

The Athens Banner-Herald reports (https://bit.ly/1xg67UG ) a woman at Hotel Indigo told police she witnessed three males rob the professor in a parking lot around 8 p.m. Monday. She told police she saw the professor waiving her hands, then watched the suspects run.

The professor told officers she had just parked and gotten out of her vehicle when a suspect concealing his face with a T-shirt approached and said, “Give me everything you got.” She said he pulled a handgun from his waistband, and two more suspects emerged hiding spots nearby.

A police report states that the suspects fled with the professor’s purse, cellphone and backpack.
