HERNANDO, Miss. (AP) - DeSoto’s declared “war on litter” is enlisting volunteers to haul rubbish to bins at 14 sites across the county over the next two weeks, and to keep the effort going year-round.

The Commercial Appeal reports (https://bit.ly/1Nf6X6a ) the annual Countywide Spring Cleanup begins Saturday and ends Easter Sunday, April 4.

Officials say the campaign seeks old furniture and mattresses, lumber, carpet, bricks, limbs, metal, plastic toys, fencing and yard, attic and garage rubbish in general.

Not allowed are aerosols, all-purpose cleaners, antifreeze, batteries, tires, insecticides and herbicides, oil, paint and electronics. These items are the target of the county’s annual fall haul-off of hazardous household waste.
