PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Martina White has won a special election for a House seat in northeast Philadelphia, becoming the city’s second Republican member of the House.

White defeated Democrat Sarah Del Ricci for the 170th District seat. Unofficial tallies of 98 percent of the vote show White with a 13.3 percent margin.

Party leaders say the 26-year-old White was just a year old the last time a Republican was elected to represent a Philadelphia-based state House District.

The financial adviser joins state Rep. John Taylor in Harrisburg. He’s the city’s Republican chairman and has represented a district in the northeast for 31 years.

The 170th district seat formerly was held by Democratic U.S. Rep. Brendan Boyle. He resigned to enter Congress after winning re-election and a congressional seat in November.
