WOODBURN, Ore. (AP) - Woodburn police say a woman who reported that she was sexually assaulted by four young men made the whole thing up.

Capt. Jason Alexander says 37-year-old Bridgette Gage confessed she was lying early Monday when telling police she was attacked while delivering newspapers. She was treated at a hospital for minor injuries that turned out to be self-inflicted.

Alexander said Wednesday the fake assault put women on edge in the city 30 miles south of Portland.

Gage was charged with initiating a false report and misuse of 911, both misdemeanors.

Her first court date is April 13.

Alexander says Gage previously made false reports to police agencies in Marion and Crook counties and in Missoula, Montana. She was charged in a 1997 case from the Portland suburb of Tualatin.
