LONG BEACH, Calif. (AP) - Two people have been critically injured in an apartment fire in Long Beach.

Fire Department spokesman Jake Heflin tells City News Service the woman and her daughter were rescued early Thursday from a third-floor apartment where a fire broke out just after midnight.

About 50 firefighters put out the blaze, which remains under investigation.
