NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - The Nashville Fire Department says an adult and a child have died in an early morning apartment blaze that also injured two children.

According to a statement, the fire was reported around 2 a.m. Thursday at a triplex building in Nashville. Firefighters arrived to find flames and heavy smoke coming from a rear apartment.

Crews rescued two children, who suffered burns and were taken to Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt. The statement said the children are in stable condition.

Police are working to identify the adult and child found dead in the apartment.

Two other apartments were occupied at the time of the fire, but no other injuries were reported.

Fire investigators are trying to determine the cause and origin of the blaze.
