MAYOR NUTTER CREATES BOARD TO OVERSEE JUSTICE DEPARMTENT RECOMMENDATIONS ABOUT POLICE SHOOTINGS

Nutter says the board will ensure the changes are made. The Justice Department team on Monday offered 91 recommendations, including better training, investigation and community relations to lower the number of fatal police shootings. The recommendations will be phased in over 18 months.

NOTE DELIVERD TO STATE POLICE NOMINEE’S HOME RAISES ISSUE OF RACE

The handwritten note arrived in Col. Marcus Brown’s suburban Harrisburg mailbox on Monday night amid an increasingly ugly battle over Brown’s nomination to lead the state police. It said: “No (racial epithet) lover will wear my uniform.” It was signed using an alias.

VETERANS AFFAIRS OFFICIAL PLEDGES AGGRESSIVE ACTION TO ADDRESS MISMANAGMENT OF DISABILITY CLAIMS

Allison Hickey, the VA’s undersecretary for benefits, spoke to The Associated Press on Wednesday in advance of an inspector general report expected early next month examining complaints about the mishandling of claims at the Philadelphia Veterans Affairs Regional Office.

CENTRAL PENNSYLVANIA COUNTY JAIL GUARD CHARGED WITH ASSAULTING HANDCUFFED INMATE

Blair County Prison guard Lloyd Gene Rogers Jr., 36, is accused of assaulting an inmate who was serving a drunken-driving sentence by pushing him backward while handcuffed so hard that he hit his head and suffered a seizure.

WEST VIRGINIA STATE POLICE CAPTURED WANTED PENNSYLVANIA MAN

State police say 30-year-old Rocco Zuccaro of Burgettstown, Pennsylvania, was found Wednesday night hiding in tall grass near a natural gas facility in the McWhorter area of Harrison County. The murder suspect escaped from a mental hospital on Monday.
