LINCOLNTON, N.C. (AP) - Textile manufacturer Mohican Mills says it is closing its doors after more than 60 years.

Local media outlets report Mohican, a subsidiary of Fab Industries, told workers by a news release about the closure on Wednesday. The plant is expected to close sometime between May 25 and June 8.

CEO Steven Myers said in the statement that the company’s operations will be wound down as it completes current customer orders and prepares to sell its facilities.

It’s not known how many jobs will be lost, but local officials say the shutdown will have a trickle-down effect since Mohican was Lincoln County’s largest utility customer.

Mohican Mills was named “Industry of the Year” in 2012 by the Lincoln Economic Development Association. At the time, the company employed more than 300 people.
