CHICAGO (AP) - Security screeners at Midway International Airport have found a loaded .45-caliber handgun in a passenger’s carry-on luggage.

The Transportation Security Administration says the 34-year-old passenger was seeking to board a flight to New York’s LaGuardia airport Tuesday and was arrested by local law enforcement.

The weapon was the seventh firearm discovered in a carry-on at Midway so far this year.

Nationwide last year, TSA officers discovered more than 2,200 firearms at airport checkpoints.

The gun discovered Tuesday was loaded and had a round chambered.
