BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) - Police say a construction worker who was shot to death in Bridgeport was a 30-year-old Milford man and the shooter is a 33-year-old city resident.

Authorities say Jose Araujo was shot Thursday morning at a road construction site and later died at a hospital. Gregory Weathers Jr. of Bridgeport was arrested on murder and gun charges a short distance away from the construction site.

Police say Weathers fired several shots after asking the crew’s foreman about a job. Officials say Weathers lives near the site.

The motive is unclear. Police say Weathers and Araujo didn’t appear to know each other.

State court records show Weathers has two convictions for driving under the influence and three pending DUI cases. His public defender in the pending cases declined to comment Thursday.
