ABERDEEN, S.D. (AP) - A former Aberdeen man who used a hammer to kill another man 21 years ago is trying to get his case dismissed.

Forty-year-old Silver McClanahan pleaded guilty in 1995 to manslaughter in the death of 60-year-old Ronald Brodersen, of Aberdeen. McClanahan was sentenced to life in prison.

The American News reports (https://bit.ly/1Iyu2Qj ) that McClanahan argued in court Wednesday that his defense attorney botched the case two decades ago. McClanahan said he was “conned” into taking a plea that he didn’t understand as a 19-year-old.

Judge Scott Myren agreed to consider McClanahan’s motion to dismiss the case. He will issue a written ruling later.
