PHOENIX (AP) - Police are looking for at least one armed suspect in an area of west Phoenix following an exchange of gunfire after officers spotted a burglary in progress.

A Phoenix police spokesman says officers were engaged in a tactical search for a gunman Thursday afternoon in the vicinity of 67th Avenue and Indian School Road.

Television news video showed numerous police cars outside an apartment complex as officers swarmed the area.

Police say officers spotted a break-in in progress and followed two suspects, including one who fired a rifle at a police vehicle.

They say an officer suffered minor injuries and a wounded suspect was hospital in serious condition.

The names of the suspect and police officer haven’t been released yet.

Police continue to search for at least one additional suspect.
