CINCINNATI (AP) - Police suspect a teenage girl hit by a vehicle earlier this week apparently stepped into traffic on purpose and may have been under the influence of drugs.

Police in Mason in southwest Ohio say the 15-year-old girl was seriously injured in Sunday’s accident.

The Cincinnati Enquirer reported Wednesday (https://cin.ci/1E1o8Zf ) that witnesses told police they saw the girl suddenly dart into traffic.

The paper says emergency responders saw improvements in the girl’s condition after providing her with Narcan, a medication used to revive patients overdosing on drugs such as painkillers or heroin.

The girl’s parents told police they suspected she was using drugs. Police say the driver of the car that struck the girl won’t be charged.
