BALTIMORE (AP) - A teenage girl who was molested by a western Maryland teacher says in a federal lawsuit that school officials ignored complaints about him for more than a year.

Allegany County school board attorney Gary Hanna told the Cumberland Times-News on Wednesday he’s aware of the lawsuit. He declined further comment.

The girl, identified only as Jane Doe, sued the school board March 17 in U.S. District Court in Baltimore. She says she is one of the two girls molested in 2013 by former Mountain Ridge High School mathematics teacher Bart Mazer.

Mazer pleaded guilty March 3 to two counts of fourth-degree sex offense. He’s awaiting sentencing.

The lawsuit alleges the principal was repeatedly told of Mazer’s inappropriate behavior but failed to take meaningful action until the girl went to police.
