ATHENS, Ga. (AP) - Police say they’re investigating the gunpoint robbery of a University of Georgia student who was attacked as she walked home from downtown Athens.

The Athens Banner-Herald reports (https://bit.ly/18ZRsBO) that the 21-year-old woman was struck in the head by two suspects around 10 p.m. Tuesday near the corner of East Broad and Arch streets.

Police said they are investigating the crime as possibly related to five other armed robberies or attempted robberies in the area in recent days. In one case, a University of Georgia professor told police she was robbed at gunpoint near downtown Athens around 8 p.m. Monday.

Athens-Clarke County police Maj. Mark Sizemore tells the Athens newspaper that police probably won’t know for sure if the crimes are related until an arrest is made.
