RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - The Commonwealth Transportation Board has awarded 16 contracts for about $174 million in projects.

The Virginia Department of Transportation says the largest of the contracts awarded Wednesday is nearly $39 million for construction of an interchange at the intersection of the U.S. 460 bypass and Route 314 in Blacksburg. That’s at the entrance to Virginia Tech.

Contracts also were awarded for construction projects on Interstate 81 in Botetourt County, Turnpike Road in Portsmouth, the Lewistown Road bridge over Interstate 95 just south of Ashland, U.S. 360 in Hanover County and Interstate 64 and Interstate 295 in the Richmond district.

Ten contracts totaling nearly $61 million were approved for various paving and resurfacing projects across the state.
