SHOW LOW, Ariz. (AP) - The Arizona Department of Transportation is poised to reopen highways that have been closed for winter in the White Mountains.

The department says it plans to reopen State Route 261 between Eager and Big Lake and State Route 273 between Sunrise Park and Big Lake on Wednesday.

However, the department says it doesn’t yet know when State Route 473 between State Route 260 and Hawley Lake will reopen.

The department says that highway is remaining closed for now while the White Mountain Apache Tribe works on the Hawley Lake dam.

The White Mountains are popular destinations for camping, fishing and other outdoors activities.
