SALEM, Va. (AP) - A massive, slow-moving tractor trailer traveling between Pulaski and Max Meadows through early next week could complicate travel in the area.

The Virginia Department of Transportation says the big rig will begin its journey Friday hauling power transformers. The truck will travel at speeds of between 1 and 5 mph and is scheduled to complete its delivery on Tuesday.

The big load will be traveling between 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on weekdays and during daylight hours on the weekend.

VDOT says it has developed a route with the transportation company that is aimed at minimizing the impact to driers and local businesses.

The starting point is Pulaski and the route continues into Wythe (WITH) County. Its final destination is Appalachian Electric Power’s Ferry Substation.
