PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - Portland police are searching for the driver of a car that crashed into the garage of a house and then fled, leaving the vehicle wedged in the badly damaged corner of the building.

Randolph Hodsdon tells the Portland Press Herald (https://bit.ly/1BtAGSc ) he was away for the night but his wife was asleep at home when she was awakened about 1 a.m. Wednesday by a crashing sound.

She called 911, thinking someone may have been dead in the car.

When police arrived, they found that the driver had fled. They called in a police dog but didn’t find the driver.

Police said Thursday that they are still searching for the driver and would not identify the car’s owner.
