CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - The Department of Veterans Affairs is breaking ground on a new parking garage that will add hundreds of additional spaces for patients at its Charleston medical center.

The groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for Friday. When completed, the $10 million, six-story parking deck will provide parking for almost 1,000 vehicles.

Currently, the Department of Veterans Affairs has leased space about 2 miles away for 600 vehicles and runs a shuttle bus to the medical center.
