MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Marine Patrol officers plan to offer free boating classes next month at three locations in Alabama.

The Montgomery Advertiser reports (https://on.mgmadv.com/1D3iwxO ) anyone who is 12 or older can sign up to attend one of the classes.

The classes will cover eight hours-worth of material, and participants can choose to attend one class or a two-part class with the parts on separate days.

Participants can expect to learn how to operate a standard boat, how to navigate the state’s waterways during the day and at night and how to handle common boating problems. They will also learn about legal requirements and state boating laws.

Eight-hour classes are set for April 11 in Alexander City and in Crane Hill. A two-part class will be held April 14 and 16 in Bessmer.
