PATCHOGUE, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say a driver was issued a summons after allegedly driving around a downed crossing gate before colliding with a Long Island Rail Road train in Patchogue (PACH’-awg).

MTA officials say the incident occurred shortly after noon Tuesday at the Rider Avenue crossing.

The man, identified as 67-year-old Gary Calderon of Shirley was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital. MTA spokeswoman Margie Anders says the ticket is for passing a downed gate.

There were no reports of injuries on the train.

On Monday, an SUV driven by 63-year-old Jennifer Garvey was hit by a train at a LIRR crossing in East Rockaway. She was hospitalized with neck and back injuries. Anders says she also was given a summons.

Last month, a Metro-North train crash in Westchester County killed six people.
