GOLDEN, Colo. (AP) - An investigation is underway after a 38-year-old inmate died in her cell at the Jefferson County jail while awaiting treatment for an illness.

The sheriff’s office says the woman, whose name has not been released, was booked into the jail Sunday on charges of theft, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, false reporting and violating her parole. On Monday, she said she felt ill and was scheduled to be seen during the routine medical rounds that evening.

Investigators say her cellmate noticed the woman was not breathing at about 7:15 p.m., and attempts to revive her were unsuccessful.

No other details have been released.
