SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Police say an officer shot and critically wounded a man who pulled out a gun during a traffic stop in Salt Lake City.

Salvador Miranda Flores is expected to survive the shooting, which happened after Salt Lake City officers stopped his white truck early Tuesday morning because it looked like a suspicious car seen outside a 7-Eleven store.

Police Sgt. Robin Heiden says the truck had been outside the store for a long time and it looked like someone might be planning a robbery.

Police say the 29-year-old man was outside the car when he pulled the gun. An officer saw it and fired, hitting the man twice in the torso.

The officer’s name was not immediately released.

Investigators will review footage from the officers’ body cameras.
