BOSTON (AP) - More snow and sleet, followed by rain, are expected to make roads slippery into Wednesday across southern New England.

The National Weather Service says most of Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island will see 2 to 5 inches of snow and a trace of ice. Up to 6 inches of snow could fall in far western Massachusetts and northwestern Connecticut.

The precipitation is expected to begin as snow, and change to sleet and rain by early Wednesday as temperatures warm.

South coastal Massachusetts and Rhode Island are expected to get 1 to 3 inches of snow, with more expected in another storm Wednesday night into Thursday. Connecticut’s coast could see 2 to 3 inches Tuesday night and 4 to 8 Wednesday night.

Forecasters say any ice and rain will add to stress to already snow-covered roofs.
